What is Qurban in Quran?

Aisha (RA) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Slaughter two comparable sheep for a male newborn and one sheep for a female.” [Tirmidhi]
As such the act of Aqiqah is related to the sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to sacrifice livestock and divide the meat.
When should Aqiqah be done?
The custom of offering an animal as a sacrifice to commemorate a child’s birth is known as aqiqah in Islam. It is seen as a highly recommended practice (Sunnah) and a means of thanking Allah for the gift of life, even if it is not mandatory. Although timing is somewhat flexible, the following is a basic guideline:
Seventh Day: The seventh day following the child’s birth is when aqiqah should ideally be performed. As Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) did for his grandsons Hasan and Husain, this is also what we should do.
14th or 21st Day: These are regarded as suitable substitutes if it is not possible to conduct aqiqah on the 7th day.
After 21 Days: Although the days mentioned above are ideal, if circumstances prohibit it, aqiqah can be administered at any point before puberty.
While aqiqah is Sunnah, it’s not obligatory. Circumstances may not always allow for it, and there’s no sin on the parents if they cannot perform it. Consulting with a trusted Islamic scholar or imam can help you navigate the specific details of aqiqah based on your situation and preferences.
