Aqiqah in Islam is performed as part of the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in relation to the birth of a child. Normally carried out by parents to give thanks or gratitude for the birth of a new child towards Allah. Generally, livestock in the form of sheep or goat is sacrificed for such occasions and shared among others.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) gave an Aqiqah to his 2 beloved grandsons, Imam al-Hasan and Imam al-Husain (peace be upon them) which is considered a part of hadith of the prophet.

Aqiqah anak dalam Islam
Aqiqah adalah salah satu praktik yang dilakukan dalam Islam untuk menunjukkan rasa syukur atas kelahiran bayi yang baru lahir. Aqiqah biasanya dilakukan pada hari ketujuh setelah kelahiran bayi. Berikut adalah sejarah aqiqah dalam Islam:
- Asal-usul Aqiqah Asal-usul aqiqah berasal dari zaman Jahiliyah, yang merupakan masa sebelum Islam. Pada saat itu, orang-orang Arab melakukan aqiqah sebagai bentuk syukur atas kelahiran anak. Mereka menyembelih seekor kambing dan mengadakan perjamuan untuk keluarga dan teman-teman.
- Aqiqah dalam Islam Setelah Islam datang, Nabi Muhammad SAW menegaskan pentingnya aqiqah dan mengajarkan cara-cara melaksanakannya. Dalam Islam, aqiqah melibatkan penyembelihan seekor hewan ternak (biasanya kambing) dan membagikan dagingnya kepada orang-orang lain. Namun, jika tidak memungkinkan dilakukan pada hari ketujuh, aqiqah boleh dilakukan pada hari yang lain, tetapi tetap dalam jangka waktu yang tidak terlalu lama. Aqiqah bisa dilakukan oleh orang tua bayi atau orang lain yang ingin memberikan hadiah kepada bayi yang baru lahir. Setelah penyembelihan hewan ternak, dagingnya harus dibagikan kepada saudara-mara, jiran tetangga atau orang-orang yang memerlukan, seperti fakir miskin dan anak yatim piatu.
